CONTRACT / SERVICE ALIGNMENT SUMMARY
By 2008, 90% of top-tier internal and external service providers will be distinguished by their substantial process capabilities, as well as their quality and service improvement capabilities (0.7 probability) - Gartner In the same manner outsourcing is kick-started by enthusiasm (if it is done properly). But after the first year, it becomes hard work on the part of both parties. The rewards are equally great! If there is no enthusiasm, the outsource deal will fail. Without trying to be academically perfect, four elements are required in order to manage a business: Planning, Leading, Organizing, Controlling. When companies decide to outsource their IT, they tend to think that it is no longer required to Control the activities within IT. It is like outsourcing your garden services and then never check up on their performance. Just like in a marriage, divorce is an expensive option in which neither one of the parties actually wins. However, in a business, a lot of money and a lot of lives are effected when things go wrong. It is vitally important to bring these relationships back under control through proper Refocus projects to the benefit of everybody, I.e. the companies and the people working for these companies. Use international standards where applicable, contractual obligations and analysis of help desk data to ensure that both parties prosper in the relationship. Being committed to getting the relationship between you and your business partner repaired to the benefit of the business world in general will ensure its success. This will contribute to a more trustworthy IT industry and a business that obtains real business benefits from their IT and other outsource partners. |
