The Bible often talks about the power of the tongue.
PRO 18:21 Death
and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
The tongue has the power to get you into trouble
MAT 12:36 But I
say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall
give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou
shalt be condemned.
We will be measured by what we said, because that is the outcome of
what we have stored in our hearts. Our things in our hearts were put
there by our thoughts.
We can talk to things / objects, and these objects talk to us. Look
at the next Scripture:
MAR 11:13 And
seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he
might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found
nothing but
leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee
hereafter
for ever. And his disciples heard it.
It states that Jesus answered the fig tree.
In other words, the fig tree told Jesus that there was no fruit - just
like your bank account could tell you that you have no money. You then
answer the bank account: I know you have no money, but I pay my tithes
and therefore you will have money when I need it in Jesus Name!
MAT 21:21 Jesus
answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the
fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou
removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
We can talk to trees, mountains, lack of money, lack of power, lack
of self-image, any thing on earth, and we can tell it what to do.
You can look at your body and it will tell you that you are sick, but
you answer it right back that it has been healed through the stripes of
Jesus and command it to be well.
All we have to do is tell the thing that is blocking our way to move
and it will move in Jesus Name!

It is a tool that is used for blessing and cursing:
GEN 1:22 And God
blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill
the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
It is the way give instructions to ourselves, the devil and other
people:
GEN 2:16 And the LORD God
commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest
freely eat:
PRO 4:10 Hear, O my son, and
receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right
paths.
We use our tongues to lead other people, give them assistance when
they need direction and assist them in changing their way of thinking so
that they can have their peace and hope back again. We use it to tell
people of the things that the Lord has done for us so that they may
build their faith in the wonderful strength, care and power of our God.
When we misuse this, we sow heartache, pain and suffering.
We were visiting one of our family one day and started talking about
thefts, muggings and robberies that have become an every day occurrence
in South Africa. Now we were hundreds of kilometers away from our home
and we started to feel stressed about what could happen back home.
It took a determined decision to change the way we were talking and
change the discussion to Psalm 91 and the protection the Lord gives us.

It is not possible to control the tongue itself.
JAM 3:8 But the
tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly
poison.
Therefore the control is someplace else. It is like driving a car.
There is no way that we can control the wheels of a speeding car. The
control is someplace else. As a matter of fact, to control the speed of
the wheels, you actually have to move away from the wheels altogether -
you need to get inside the car.
For us to control the speed of the wheels, we need to change our
thinking to the brakes and the accelerator pedal. This is the same of
the tongue. We need to get our attention away from the tongue and rather
look at the force that controls the tongue, the heart.
MAT 12:34 O
generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for
out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

MAT 12:34 O
generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things?
for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Our words originate in our hearts. If we are upset, our hearts are
upset. If we keep things locked away in our hearts, that will one day
come out in anger.
In South Africa everybody knows that 10 years of freedom is actually
10 years of bondage. Crime has spun out of control. Instead of fighting
on the borders, we are now fighting in our gardens, our homes, our cars.
Instead of putting electrical fences around industrial buildings, we
have put electrical fences around our properties.
Most of the taxi drivers do not have the intelligence to understand
the dangers they are putting fellow drivers in by uploading and
downloading passengers in the middle of an intersection, driving in the
yellow portion of the roads and weaving through traffic.
All of this is creating a huge amount of frustration by people in
South Africa who realize that this is happening and there is nothing
they can do about it. Now people crop this anger up within
themselves.
When these people get in behind the wheels of their vehicles,
they feel they have some power and some authority to "set things right".
They shout, scream and swear, show signs and force other cars out of
their way.
Suddenly all those cropped up feelings surface.
The same happens with all emotions that are stored in the heart. At
some time, it will come out. We need to make sure that our hearts remain
clean, especially as far as God is concerned. He understands our
feelings, desires, hopes and dreams. But that is not what is going to
get the job done. Faith is going to get the job done.
Now things do not work out for us. Instead of looking for the problem
in ourselves, we look for the problem with God. God did not want to heal
me. God did not think it was right for me to have that great house. God
did not want to bless me with a house at the sea.
Then all these feelings fester in our hearts and one day, it bursts
out in anger like the drivers in South Africa.

As a man thinks, so is he
PRO 23:7a For as
he thinketh in his heart, so is he
We have a choice what we would like to think of. And it is this
thinking that determines who we are.
Let us have a look at a person that has just been born again. He or
she is pure, full of excitement and zeal for their God.
Let us now look at that same person a few years down the road. The
worries of this world has taken its toll and they lost that zeal. They
know they are going to heaven one day, so that problem has been sorted
out. Now they have other problems to care about. Their whole life is
always full of problems. If the circumstances do not produce something
to worry about, they will find something themselves. This can be their
safety, security, money, health or something else.
We change our hearts by what we are thinking. Therefore, do not think
on evil things!
PHI 4:8 Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be
any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
This not just a good idea! You need to do this to get your hearts
sorted out and then you can listen to your mouth to see whether you have
succeeded!
